The VEDENS Visual Display

The visual display is divided into ten segments, with each vehicle progressing through them as it moves along the road. The visual effect is akin to that which would be obtained from ten observers, each suspended in a balloon above a stretch of highway, each transmitting a picture back to a central control monitor. Vehicles enter at the bottom left and proceed along the bottom segment, then the second, etc., until they leave at the top right. The display indicates driving on the right, but this is not implicit in the model; driving on the left is simply a mirror image. The coloured edges of the road indicate the speed limit in force and are dotted for uphill gradients and dashed for downhill gradients. The colour of the vehicles varies from dark blue for very slow speeds to orange for faster moving vehicles. Brake lights are indicated by red at the rear of the vehicles.
