VEDENS Drivers

The main characteristics used to differentiate between various drivers are a "safety factor" and the time taken to change lanes. The safety factor governs: the amount of headway regarded as comfortable when following another vehicle; the amount of space regarded as sufficient when changing lanes; the observance of speed limits; the tendency to drive the vehicle at or near the limit of its performance; the tendency to change lanes and overtake on the inside for short term gain; the advance distance where action is considered when approaching an exit or lane closure. Thus timid drivers will tend to leave a longer space, drive more slowly and be reluctant to change lanes, whereas an aggressive driver will tend to "tailgate", cut-in in front of others, change lanes to overtake on the inside and substantially exceed the speed limit.
