Consulting VEDENS at the NTCC

VEDENS at the National Traffic Control Centre (NTCC)

The author has been appointed as the Chief Traffic Engineer at the NTCC for England within the UK. The VEDENS model has been used to great effect at NTCC to improve the accuracy of its traffic flow monitoring. It has also been used to verify modelling of delays caused by lane closures and accidents. In addition, the capacity of real sections of road, known as LINKS has beed predicted using VEDENS and the accuracy of the predictions checked by considering the maximum flows when congestion causes flow breakdown.
